The San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Shun Yamaguchi, according to the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday.
Yamaguchi, 33, recently was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays and cleared waivers earlier this week.
The native of Japan struggled in his first season in the United States, going 2-4 with an 8.06 ERA in 17 relief appearances for the Blue Jays. He gave up 28 hits and 17 walks in 25⅔ innings. Yamaguchi struck out 26.
Before joining the Blue Jays, Yamaguchi spent 14 seasons pitching in Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan. He went 64-58 with a 3.35 ERA in 427 appearances.
