TOKOROZAWA, SAITAMA PREF. – Rookie Hayato Yuge got his second professional win Tuesday, throwing seven strong innings as the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles thrashed the Seibu Lions 10-0.
The 25-year-old southpaw received plenty of support from the Eagles batters, who racked up 15 hits and grabbed the lead in the opening frame at MetLife Dome.
Ginji Akaminai led the way on offense for Rakuten going 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
Yuge (2-0) fanned four while allowing just four hits and no walks. The 193-cm rookie combined with Yuya Kubo and Koji Aoyama for the shutout.
Lions starter Tatsuya Imai (6-9) took the loss. He surrendered four runs in two innings.
Hideto Asamura gave the visitors the lead in the first by hitting a double that brought home Hiroaki Shimauchi.
Akaminai bashed a first-pitch, 117-kph curveball from Imai over the right-field fence to make it 3-0. The blast was his fifth homer of the year, equaling his total from last season.
“It was an enticing pitch so I got on top of it. The outcome was good,” said Akaminai, who reached 1,000 career hits in June.
The Eagles only failed to add runs in the third, seventh and ninth innings.
Shimauchi finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including a two-run double in the fourth.
In the fifth, Zelous Wheeler belted his 16th homer of the season, a solo shot off Kaima Taira.
