Tanaka set for return to rotation [ENGLISH]
NEW YORK – New York Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka has been slated to pitch on Wednesday for the first time since he strained his right hamstring on Sept. 18.
Tanaka skipped his last start and had felt discomfort after a bullpen session last Friday, but was cleared for duty on Monday after a workout at Yankee Stadium.
“I’m fine,” he said. “I want to go out and execute pitches as I have up to this point.”
A start on Wednesday at home against the Boston Red Sox would, if things go as planned, set Tanaka up to start the Yankees’ wildcard playoff game next Tuesday at home, but Tanaka said he has yet to hear from manager Joe Girardi.
“He hasn’t told me that directly, so I can’t comment at this stage,” Tanaka said.
